101 things every mobile developer should know

imagePaulo Fierro’s session was an insightful yet practical session for mobile developers at Flash on the Beach – here’s some of his advice for building mobile apps:

  • Choose your own adventure platform
  • You’re not going to get rich
  • Read the HIG (Human Interface Guidelines)
  • Don’t make it boring
  • Put fun in functionality
  • I want to lick it
  • Challenge convention
  • Pull down to refresh
  • Behaviour is different
  • Content should be different
  • My finger is fat (think of minimum dimensions for buttons)
  • Resolution independence
  • Don’t make me RTFM
  • Move on your idea
  • Your idea is not original
  • We can make the world a better place
  • Build for you
  • Design a beautiful icon
  • Web API’s are awesome
  • You are building a product
  • Love your users
  • Listen to your users
  • Stalk your users (use analytics)
  • Know when to say no (but explain why)
  • Design matters
  • Sweat the details
  • Don’t pretend
  • Don’t throw tomatoes (ask Remy Sharp)
  • Have fun
